Training

Training professional radon testers and mitigators is an essential step toward getting the public to accept radon as a problem that can be solved. Without a reliable and knowledgeable industry in place, many homeowners will feel uncertain as to who to call and may take no action even if they realize the risks of radon are high.

The EPA also recognizes this problem and has assigned to the states the task of certifying radon testers and mitigators who have been trained on the EPA approved methods and protocols. California recognizes two certification boards (the National Radon Safety Board (NRSB) and National Environmental Health Association - National Radon Proficiency Program (NEHA - NRPP)). Each certification board recognize various training and testing centers around the country. Here is the contact information from the Connections Section:

I had to fly back to Colorado Springs, Colorado to get my training and take the certification tests at CERTI, but CERTI is giving the class and test in Reno in June.

Home Study Course

These courses are offered by CERTI in Colorado Springs where I was trained. Mention code # JM50 to receive a $50 or $30 discount depending on the course. Could be a good off season job for construction workers or contractors.

I have free cd's that explain the course and answer questions about becoming a radon professional.

This Local Training was offered on June 5 - 8, 2006

Adrian Howe, from the Nevada Radiological Health Section of the Department of Human Resources recently contracted with Doug Kladder of CERTI to present the radon training and testing, normally held in Colorado, at the Peppermill Hotel in Reno from Monday June 5 – Thursday June 8, 2006. Anyone, but especially contractors and house inspectors in California and Nevada, who plan on doing radon mitigation in California or Nevada, should consider taking this course. It is a home study course with written materials and DVDs and then a 4 day hands-on training in Reno with the NEAH-NRPP test included on the last day of class. Passing this course and test in Nevada would qualify an individual to become certified in California, where all radon service providers need certification. Certification is not currently required in Nevada, but the knowledge gained from this class is essential to performing safe radon mitigation as required by the EPA.

13 Free Scholarships Offered

Adrian Howe is offering 13 scholarships for those who live in Nevada or "an adjacent area" and who plan on doing radon mitigation work in Nevada or "an adjacent area." South Lake Tahoe, CA should qualify as "an adjacent area." Check with Adrian Howe for specific qualifications, 775/687-5394, Ext. 275.
